Bowlen’s $50K donation is hardly a drop in the fire fighters’ bucket

Colin D. | June 30, 2012

The Denver Broncos’ $50,000 donation to Colorado fire fighting efforts is just embarassing.

The Denver Broncos organization made a donation to Colorado’s effort to fight the raging wild fires (that are destroying homes and wiping out lives) of $50,000.  They didn’t contribute quietly. Their altruism was trumpeted across the Denver media.

Peyton Manning will earn 18M in 2012 – $281,000 per 15 minutes of playing time – $50,000 every 2.67 minutes.

The Broncos’ contribution to the State’s most pressing and tragic emergency in memory wouldn’t pay their star quarterback to take the field for three minutes.

It’s embarrassing.

Pat Bowlen would have been better off donating no money at all. At least that wouldn’t have been news. Instead, he gave so little that it makes the Broncos look downright cheap.

Efforts to fight the fires are going to end up costing hundreds of millions. Fifty grand, Pat? Really?

You might as well have kicked down a sack of water balloons and a super-soaker.

Criticizing the team for donating money to the cause may seem a bit disingenuous but the amount is just ridiculous considering the dollars that organization has to throw around on things that are so much less important.
